The Day of the Oprichnik

One of four short animations for a documentary about modern Russian literature that won an AI-AP Motion Award in New York. The animation is used to accompany the reading of an extract from “The Day of The Oprichnik” by Vladimir Sorokin and references film noir, Dick Tracy and the constant rain of Bladerunner. Set in a future Russia, a member of the Oprichnik (secret police) is heading off to meet his fellow officers to take a futuristic hallucinogenic drug based on a stirlet or small sturgeon. We are please to say that this animation won an AI-AP Motion award in New York.
